There are two different snorkelling trips that I can offer you while you are on the South East Coast, the local snorkelling or Blue Lagoon. The local snorkelling takes you with a local fisher boat out towards the reef just off the South East coast beaches of Zanzibar – sailing across the out-of-this-world-blue waters until you reach the reef where you can enjoy as much snorkelling as you want to, enjoying the sight of tropical fish, reef and star fish.

This area is pretty much as good as the famous spots of Mnemba and Chumbe Island, just without the premium price tag.

Snorkelling With Local Dhow on Zanzibar

If you are on Zanzibar, choose Dhow to take you snorkelling, its fun. Although  you can choose a boat over dhow for Blue Lagoon snorkelling trip, I recommend you to be adventurous and experience authentic way of sailing while on Zanzibar.

This snorkelling trip is tide dependent, so always necessary to check for high and low tide (which can be up to 4m difference on the South East coast of Zanzibar). Not huge amounts of fish, but starfish and corals can be seen. Fisher boats can also be organised for a sunset cruise along the coast line.

Blue Lagoon Snorkelling With Motorboat

Dhow trip can take up to 5 people while motorboat up to 15 people. Snorkelling tour includes:

  • pick up in your hotel on East Coast (Jambiani, Paje, Bwejju). If you need to arrive from other parts of Zanzibar I can arrange a transport for you for friendly price, usually less than tourist standard rate that is charged by taxi drivers.
  • dhow rental
  • snorkelling equipment
  • water
  • fresh fruits

This snorkeling trip in Blue Lagoon is tide dependent, low tide is usually better for sight and with calm water which makes it better underwater visibility of corals and fish as well as for swimming itself. Trip can be combined with lunch or dinner at the famous  The Rock Restaurant.

Dont forget to pack for this tour:

  • your own towel,
  • swimming suit,
  • sun protection (cream and something to cover your head),
  • cameras and good mood!

Price includes pick up from anywhere on the South East coast, snorkelling equipment and fresh tropical fruits for lunch!
