Where to Stay in Moshi for Affordable Price
At some point every traveller to Tanzania ends up in Moshi. Many visitors use Moshi as Kilimanjaro climbing base city, while I like to come back for all the side trips Kilimanjaro area offers. Every time I discover something new and having a soft spot for this town it is unnecessary to mention I have been here many times.
Each time I visit Moshi, I check in in different place. So far nothing impressed me so much that it would be worth writing about, until I stayed in Kili Cottages.
Home Away From Home in Moshi – Kili Cottages Review
You haven’t probably heard much about Kili Cottages. Because they are new in town! Kili Cottages in Moshi were my home away from home. Literally. It might sound cheesy or cliché, but am so happy I found this option to sleep in Moshi as it turned out the best I have been to so far in recent years.
Location wise they are not in the centre of Moshi. Just 2 km from Moshi Airport, 10km from Kilimanjaro International Airport and only two kilometers from main bus station in Moshi.
For me location was a huge plus. If you read my posts, then you already know I prefer quiet locations no matter where I travel. Kili Cottages Moshi are one of those places that can be called safe and quiet oasis. Which means good sleep. And good sleep is vital if you travel a lot, changing places frequently and work on the road.
Kili Cottages are only 5 minutes out of Moshi town by car. To compensate on the central location, staff has car ready for guests 24/7. Free pick ups and drop offs anytime its needed. I loved that! What makes Kili Cottages excellent choice to sleep in Moshi is, the fact that they are new.
Everything is new in Kili Cottages, which is hard to find in Africa. New water heaters in bathrooms, new, clean air-conditions in rooms, spotlessly clean rooms with new mosquito nets. And each cottage block has nice verandah space for rest with Kilimanjaro beer or real cappuccino or just reading a good book.
When I was there I had to work online, the staff brought the table on the verandah and next thing I knew, I was having an office on the porch. That was very cool gesture. No need to mention the fast free WiFi worked well. If you use mobile Internet, Vodacom Tanzania reception works best in this area.
Breakfast is included in the price and comes with generous serving, from eggs, fruits, bread, honey, butter, all kinds of warm drinks from coffee, cacao, tea to fresh juice. For those who want to eat locally, local restaurants are just a stroll away down the street.
Security wise Kili Cottages are very safe. Surrounded by high walled fence around the property and professional security guards are on the watch 24/7.
Sanctuary Before and After Kilimanjaro Climb
Despite the fact they opened their door to guests just recently, Kili Cottages is becoming hugely popular among Kilimanjaro climbers that value quality service. For additional fee tired Kilimanjaro climbers can order a rejuvenating massage from professional masseur to recover muscle pain. They also allow to leave luggage during Kili tour, which is great!
What I liked in Kili Cottages Moshi
- Free shuttle service to Moshi Town (usually have no problems taking dalla dallas and other means of transport, but since this option was offered I was happy to use it!)
- Free and fast Wifi
- Staff – Dionis and team did everything to make sure my stay was enjoyable. Felt really well looked after during the whole stay. Thanks for setting up my nomadic office and pineapple farewell gift, was delicious!
- Breakfasts – not only the choice of food, but only the flexibility of serving staff. Few times I had to leave for trips much earlier before the kitchen actually opened. Although I didn’t ask for early breakfast, I was taken care of with fresh coffee, passion juice and omelete served on my verandah office.
- Quiet Location and Gardens
- As a solo female traveler i felt completely safe.
According to my experience with accommodation, Kili Cottages are without competition in Moshi! It was the best place I have been in town, quiet, comfortable, safe and service wise – it felt like at home.
Disclaimer: We were invited to stay at Kili Cottages free of charge, but of course all opinions expressed are my own.

Great review Nina. Having just returned to the UK from a Kili Cottages stay myself, I can so relate to this review. I love the insight you have given as to what to expect of the accomodation, but nothing will sum up what it’s like when it comes to leaving the place (and the Team). Ha. I am already planning my return. This is a well deserved review…
What a beautiful place to stay! I will probably never do the climb, but it would be so awesome to meet climbers and enjoy the climbing atmosphere there.
Even if you dont climb, Cottages are the cleanest option in Moshi.
Guys, you said it well,
Kili Cottages is one of the best accommodation facilities that I recommend to my clients, and include into my client’s itinerary. A cool place to stay and reasonable price too.
I agree, Kili Cottages are the best
